Republic Of Depression

I do not buy in a word of the hype around how Turkey is the beacon of progress and all the mystification surrounding this utter lie...

If you are a creative teenager who wants to explore her possibilities would you consider attending a university in Turkey or go somewhere where there are actually networks of scholars working on cutting edge topics?

If you are a on to something big would you consider setting up shop in Turkey where all major institutions are either corrupt or sealed off by circles of kinship and religious cult?

Would you find it easy to penetrate the "Turkish" society and way of life, and decide to immigrate here to achieve your dreams?

Would you feel you are surrounded here by opportunity and adventure or rather doomed to a slow "progress" through hierarchy?

What do you think would happen if you were to challenge the establishment, be it your father, your school teacher, your boss or your prime minister?

In this country where mindless thugs get to push their agendas while those with some thinking ability are left to wonder in astonishment, depression and despair will always prevail.

May Ataturk rest in peace, despite all this and more.
